January 2013 wine of the month!

La Rioja Alta, Vina Alberdi Rioja Reserva

I purchased a bottle of the La Rioja Alta, Vina Alberdi Rioja Reserva 2006 from Oddbins Wandsworth. Wanting something to go with a lamb dish (which I naughtily forgot to capture!), I independtly chose this Rioja. The Spanish wine, comes from the Rioja region and consists of 100% of the Tempranillo grape.

The wine was around the £12 mark, it was actually on a discount, and normally this vintage would set you back by about £16 or £17. So with regards to the disount, it was a yummy offer!

The wine is reserva, aged for 24 months in oak (French or American tbc), and 24 months in a cellar before release.

Fresh and clean on the nose, dark cherry, other berries and hints of coconut cream. Well-balanced on the palate with a silky mouthfeel, a lovely lingering finish.

A great wine, from an underdog vintage.

Happy drinking.
